Cosy Pea Pod

Audiovisual Cultures is a Cosy Pea Pod production initiated by Paula Blair in early 2018. Paula researches and writes about film, the creative arts and visual culture. She holds a PhD in Film & Visual Studies from Queen’s University Belfast where she also completed her BA (Hons) in English & Film Studies and MA in Film & Visual Studies. AVC is sometimes co-hosted by film historian Andrew Shail, who holds a PhD from the University of Exeter and is a Senior Lecturer in Film at Newcastle University.

Audiovisual Cultures aims to:

  • platform creative practice, practitioners, researchers and educators;
  • include marginalized voices, works, topics, issues, practices and makers/labourers;
  • analyse creative works and assess or map their significance or relationship to aspects of life such as politics, society, history and culture, both in specific contexts and more broadly;
  • promote and demonstrate critical thinking;
  • take a ‘borderless’ approach to arts and humanities disciplines, and disrupt institutional categories, hierarchies and gatekeeping;
  • value knowledge and active inquiry, but above all, having a go at things, especially having and sharing informed ideas.
